METHODS FOR
CONTROLLING DUST
CONTROL MEASURES
Avoid
making RCS dust by using silica free materials or buying
the right size of materials to avoid cutting. If you can’t avoid
making RCS dust, you must do everything practically possible to...
AVOID
Prevent
exposure by using water suppression equipment to
convert the dust to slurry, sweeping up using the correct floor
extraction tool or using “on tool dust extraction”. This removes
the dust as it is created. To achieve this you need to:
Choose tools that have a collection cover
and extraction port.
Connect your tool to an M Class certified extraction unit.
If you cannot prevent RCS exposure, you must...
PREVENT
Minimise
exposure to as low a level as is reasonably practical by:
(Note: Water particle size must be
similar to the respirable dust particle size to be effective).
Using an air filter cube to rotate and clean the air.
Using less powerful tools.
Wearing the correct respiratory protection equipment
(RPE) - This is by no means the most effective solution
but can be used if you have no other way of eliminating
dust as it only aids individuals wearing the equipment.
You must ensure that you aren’t harming anyone else.
