The 72914B Bearing Shield Kit comes with
four bearing shields and attaching hardware.
They may be mounted on any MAXIMUS disk
gang.
Park the disk on a firm level surface with the
blades touching the ground or with the disk
firmly blocked. Use jackstands or blocking ma
-
terials with a minimum load rating of 2500 lbs.
Shut off the tractor, depressurize the hydraulic
system, set the parking brake, and remove the
ignition key.
Remove the locknuts 1/2-13UNC (9800) from
the bottom two holes of the bearing. Remove
the capscrews 1/2-13UNC x 1 (9390-100) from
these locations. This may require loosening of
the disk gang nut (9393-018) to permit the spac-
ers to slide away from the bearing standards.
Alternatively, a small groove may be ground
in the spacer to permit the capscrew to be
removed. This groove should be only large and
deep enough to remove the capscrew. Excessive
groove size may damage the spacer and cause
it to fail in use. Grind only one groove in each
spacer and rotate the gang to align with each
capscrew. It may also be necessary to loosen
the top two mounting bolts for the bearing, but
they should not need to be removed.
Place the shield weldment (72913B) on the
nut side of the bearing with the long flange
extending underneath the bearing. Check that
the grease fitting on the bearing is accessible
with the bearing shield in place. If not, all re-
taining bolts for the bearing must be removed
and the bearing rotated so the grease zerk is
accessible with the bearing shield installed. Insert
the capscrews 1/2-13UNC x 1 1/2 (9390-101)
through the standard and thread them into the
bearing shield. Torque to 30-40 ft-lbs, using
care not to strip threads in shield weldment.
Install locknuts (94981) on remaining threads
of capscrews (9390-101) to serve as jam nuts
to prevent capscrews from loosening during
operation. Torque these nuts to 75-85 ft-lbs.
Retighten the top bolts in the bearings, if they
were loosened, and torque to 75-85 ft lbs.
Raise unit slightly and spin gang to be certain
no interferences exist.
