To replace the front blades, at least one of the
front gang assemblies must be removed from the
machine. Remove the 3/4" hardware from the
clamping plates and roll the gang from under the
machine frame. Remove the roll pin and nut from
the arbor bolt. Blades and spools can then be
removed. Install new blades and re-torque nut to
a minimum of 300 ft. lbs. The other front may be
serviced without removing it from the machine, if
desired. Reinstall the removed gang to the same
point on the main frame.

WoRN WhIlE REPlACING A bEARING.
1. Lower the basket of the implement to the
ground.
2. Remove the 5/8-11 locknuts and the 5/8-11
U-bolts that attach the basket frame to the
spring arm weldments.
3. Slide the basket and the frame away from
the others.
4. Remove the three capscrews which hold
the bearing.
5. Use a crowbar, if needed, to pry the end
of the basket from out of the basket frame
hole.
6. Loosen the set screw in the lock collar.
Loosen lock collar by turning with punch
in the opposite direction of basket travel.
7. Place a punch through the hole in the end
plate on the basket and use a hammer to
remove the bearing. If the bearing is on
too tight, use a bearing puller to remove
the bearing.
8. File off any burrs left on the shaft. Finish
with a strip of emery cloth. Make sure
bearing will slide on the shaft.
9. Slide a new bearing (97245B) on the shaft
so the lock collar will be on the outside.
10. Pry the end of the basket into the hole of
the frame.
11. Replace the three capscrews and secure
the bearing.
IMPORTANT
: Tighten the capscrews before you
set the lock collar.
Turn lock collar in the di-
rection of travel until the bearing is locked
to the shaft.
Tighten capscrews according to
"Torque Chart" on page 19.
12. Reassemble the basket to the frame with
the hardware removed in step #2.
SERVICE of
MAXIMUS DISK
To replace blades on the rear gangs, the gangs
do not have to be removed from the machine
unless desired. Remove the roll pin and nut from
the arbor bolt. Blades and spools can then be
removed. Install new blades and re-torque nut
to a minimum of 300 ft. lbs. If the gangs are
removed, they must be reinstalled to the same
point on the main frame.
When installing notched blades, the blades should
be rotated so the notches are not in-line across
the width of the gang. The notches should make
a spiral pattern around the gang.
Replace bearings when they become loose, dam-
aged, or no longer rotate freely. The replacement
procedure for the bearings is similar to that for the
blades. After the bearing and hanger have been
removed from the arbor bolt, remove the capscrews
from the hanger and remove the bearing. Install
new bearings into hangers. Reassemble the disk
gang, as above, and reinstall it on the machine
to the original location. Position grease zerk so it
is easily accessable.
