To provide maximum assurance that the ANSUL system will
operate effectively and safely, maintenance must be
performed at six-month intervals, or sooner when indicated
by an inspection.
NOTICE
The nitrogen cylinder regulators must be
tested annually using Regulator Test Kit (Part
No. 78689) and referring to Regulator Test
Manual (Part No. 78695) at the back of this
binder. To ensure that regulators will operate
properly during maintenance, perform the
regulator test before performing maintenance
procedures.
1. Pull ring pin and close RED Tank Valve.
2. Note general appearance of the system and component parts,
checking for mechanical damage or corrosion.
3. Check nameplates for readability, corrosion, or looseness.
4. Read each nitrogen cylinder gauge, note pressure, check
ambient temperature, and refer to Temperature Correction
Chart on F-8833 or F-8834. Replace cylinder if below
minimum pressure.
NOTICE
If cylinder requires replacement, refer to
Recharge Section, Steps 8 through 11 on Pages
5 through 6.
5. Check agent tank by completing the following steps:
a. Remove fill cap and check pressure relief vent (in cap) for
obstructions.
b. Examine fill cap gasket for elasticity, cuts, or weather
checking. Clean and coat gasket lightly with a good grade
of high heat-resistant grease, then replace.
c. Inspect threads in fill cap and on fill opening for nicks, burrs,
cross-threading, and rough or feathered edges. Clean and
coat fill cap threads lightly with a good grade of high heat-
resistant grease.
d. Make certain tank is filled with only free-flowing ANSUL
extinguishing agent to a level of not more that 6 in.
(152 mm) from bottom of fill opening for models PS-150
and PS-300; or 12 in. (305 mm) from bottom of fill opening
for models PS-500, PS-1000, PS-2000, and PS-3000.
NOTICE
Do not replace fill cap at this time.
6. Examine bursting disc by completing the following steps:
a. Handle the bursting disc carefully. It is a precision product.
Do not bend or kink it. Install only one bursting disc per
tank.
b. Disconnect the union elbow.
c. Disassemble the SILVER bursting disc flange(s) or union.
d. Clean mating surface of bursting disc flange(s) or union.
e. Install bursting disc so that dome is directed away from
tank.
NOTICE
If bursting disc requires replacement, order
as follows:
System Model No.
Disc Part No.

f. Tighten bursting disc flange(s) or union carefully to prevent
damage to the disc.
g. Reassemble union elbow.
7. Check piping and supports for mechanical damage or
corrosion.
8. Examine each nozzle opening for mechanical damage,
corrosion, or obstructions.
9. Make certain a blow-off cap is installed on each nozzle, where
used.
10. Make certain RED tank valve is CLOSED.
11. Check detectors for mechanical damage, corrosion or
obstructions.
12. Check detection system by activating a detector. Control unit
and releasing device should activate upon signal from
detector. Alarm(s) should sound, if provided.
13. Check each nitrogen cylinder to verify that valve is open.
14. Reset control unit in accordance with manufacturer’s
instructions.
NOTICE
Control unit will not reset until detectors and
remote electric manual pull stations are reset.
15. Rearm the AUTOMAN II-C releasing device.
a. Pull ring pin from RED strike button and open enclosure
cover. If weatherproof enclosure is provided and RED strike
button is not visible, remove screws and enclosure cover.
MAINTENANCE

CAUTION
!
RED Tank Valve must be closed to prevent accidental
discharge of agent when inspecting the system.
CAUTION
!
RED Tank Valve must be closed to prevent accidental
discharge of agent when inspecting the system.
CAUTION
!
Do not attempt to remove empty cartridge before arming
release.
CAUTION
!
Be careful when removing fill cap as tank may have
elevated pressure. Attempting to remove fill cap when
tank has elevated pressure could result in personal
injury or damage to property.
