9 FAQ

What is MP3?

MP3 is the short form of MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 and is part of the Picture Expert Group

(MPEG), which was originally developed as a standard to compress movie and video data.

Digital music (e.g. from a CD) can be compressed into files that are comparatively small and

thus can be easily archived on a hard disk drive or transferred via the Internet

MP3s are popular due to their compression rate, audio quality and versatility, and can be

played in most digital music players and PCs.

What is WMA®?

Windows® Media Audio, is a compression format developed by Microsoft® Corporation.

Microsoft claimed this format could achieve the same sound quality as MP3 with a smaller

file size. Users could ripe music from CD into WMA files using Windows® Media Player 9.0.

What is ID3 Tags?

ID3 Tags are tiny data fields embedded in a digital music file like MP3, WMA and AAC. The

purpose of ID3 Tags is to store the background information like: “Song Title”, “Album Name”,

“Artist Name”, “Track Number”, “Year of publishing”, etc, in the music files.    ID3 Tags are

important for managing music library with large number of titles.
