WARNING
Incorrect battery-cable routing could damage the
machine and cables causing sparks. Sparks can
cause the battery gasses to explode, resulting in
personal injury.
•
Always disconnect the negative (black) battery
cable before disconnecting the positive (red)
cable.
•
Always connect the positive (red) battery cable
before connecting the negative (black) cable.
1.
Stop the engine, set the parking brake, remove the key,
and wait for all moving parts to stop before leaving the
operating position.
2.
Remove the console pad; refer to
Console Pad (page 28)
.
3.
At the battery, lift the black terminal cover on the
negative cable (

Charging the Battery
WARNING
Charging the battery produces gasses that can
explode.
Never smoke near the battery and keep sparks and
flames away from battery.
Important:
Always keep the battery fully charged
(1.265 specific gravity) to prevent battery damage when
the temperature is below 32°F (0°C).
1.
Remove the battery from the chassis; refer to
the Battery (page 36)
.
2.
Check the electrolyte level.
3.
Ensure that the filler caps are installed on the battery.
4.
Charge the battery for 1 hour at 25 to 30 amps or 6
hours at 4 to 6 amps.
5.
When the battery is fully charged, unplug the charger
from the electrical outlet, and disconnect the charger
leads from the battery posts (
6.
Install the battery onto the machine and connect the
battery cables; refer to
Installing the Battery (page 37)
.
Note:
Do not run the machine with the battery
disconnected; electrical damage may occur.
