Changes in the terrain can result in a change in
slope operation for the machine.
– Avoid starting, stopping, or turning the machine
on slopes. Avoid making sudden changes in
speed or direction. Make turns slowly and
gradually.
– Do not operate a machine under any conditions
where traction, steering, or stability is in
question.
– Remove or mark obstructions such as ditches,
holes, ruts, bumps, rocks, or other hidden
hazards. Tall grass can hide obstructions.
Uneven terrain could overturn the machine.
– Be aware that operating the machine on wet
grass, across slopes, or downhill may cause
the machine to lose traction.
– Use extreme caution when operating
the machine near drop-offs, ditches,
embankments, water hazards, or other
hazards. The machine could suddenly roll over
if a wheel goes over the edge or the edge
caves in. Establish a safety area between the
machine and any hazard.
– Identify hazards at the base of the slope.
If there are hazards, mow the slope with a
pedestrian-controlled machine.
– If possible, keep the cutting units lowered to
the ground while operating on slopes. Raising
the cutting units while operating on slopes can
cause the machine to become unstable.
Starting the Engine
Important:
You must bleed the fuel system before
starting the engine if you are starting the engine
for the first time, the engine has shut off due to
lack of fuel, or you have performed maintenance
on the fuel system; refer to
.
1.
Sit on the seat, keep your foot off the traction
pedal so that it is in N
EUTRAL
, engage the parking
brake, set the engine-speed switch to the F
AST
position, and ensure that the Enable/Disable
switch is in the D
ISABLE
position.
2.
Turn the key to the O
N
/P
REHEAT
position.
An automatic timer controls the glow plug
preheat for 6 seconds.
3.
After preheating the glow plugs, turn the key to
the S
TART
position.
Crank the engine for no longer than 15 seconds.
Release the key when the engine starts. If
additional preheating is required, turn the key to
the O
FF
position and then to the O
N
/P
REHEAT
position. Repeat this process as required.
4.
Run the engine at low idle speed until it warms
up.
Shutting Off the Engine
1.
Move all controls to N
EUTRAL
, engage the
parking brake, move the throttle to the L
OW IDLE
position and allow the engine to reach low idle
speed.
Important:
Allow the engine to idle for 5
minutes before shutting it off after a full
load operation. Failure to do so may lead to
trouble on a turbo-charged engine.
2.
Turn the key to the O
FF
position and remove it
from the switch.
Adjusting the
Turf-Compensation Spring
The turf-compensation spring (
) transfers
the weight from the front roller to the rear roller. This
helps to reduce a wave pattern in the turf, also known
as marcelling or bobbing.
Important:
Make spring adjustments with the
cutting unit mounted to the traction unit, pointing
straight ahead, and lowered to the shop floor.
1.
Make sure that the hairpin is installed in the rear
hole in the spring rod (
).
Note:
When servicing the cutting unit, move
the hairpin to the spring-rod hole next to the
turf-compensation spring.
