Electrical engineers have developed something known as a
circuit diagram, which offers a clear and simple way of repre-
senting components and their connections. Each component is
shown as a symbol, or circuit symbol. The symbol for an elec-
trical wire is particularly easy — a single line. When a wire is
thickened with a dot, it represents a place where two wires
are joined or connected.
