The
(Lo/Mid/Hi Stereo)
designation in the profile refers to the settings on the
VP88 Stereo Microphone. The VP88 microphone is the microphone that is
mounted on a separate stand in the corner of the studio, under the air conditioner.
It’s a special stereo microphone that has 4 different settings.
Here’s a picture of the VP88 Microphone so you know what to look for:
The VP88 Stereo Microphone
The
Lo/Mid/Hi Stereo
settings are identified as
H M L STEREO
on the microphone.
L
: “Lo” Stereo. In this setting the microphone picks up
a narrow width of stereo sound. For example, if you
were having two singers share the microphone, it would
pick them both up very well.
M
: “Mid” Stereo. In this setting the VP88 picks up a
slightly wider area of stereo sound. This setting would
pick up three singers quite well.
H
: “Hi” Stereo. In this setting, the microphone would pick up the widest area of
stereo sound. You might use this setting if you were trying to mic a small group of
musicians to capture the “ambience” of the room and performance.
The
ALL
5 MICS (Lo/Mid/Hi Stereo)
profile gives you the ability to use the
stereo mic, with any one of the three settings, on Channel 5 on the console.
You will have to experiment with placement of the mic stand for the VP88. You
might consider putting the stand on your side of the console, with the extension
boom reaching over the console to point at the musicians. There is no “perfect”
placement because it depends on the size of the group performing.
As an alternative to the
ALL
5 MICS
profile, there is one more multi-mic profile
available.
