Important Information on Alternate Site Testing
We recommend that Alternate Site Testing SHOULD NOT BE USED WHEN:
n
You have hypoglycemic unawareness (not able to tell if you have low
blood sugar).
n
You are within 2 hours of eating a meal, exercising, or taking medication.
n
You will be operating machinery or driving a car.
n
You are sick.
n
You think your blood glucose is low.
n
Your Alternate Site Testing results do not match the way you feel.
n
You are testing for hyperglycemia.
n
Your routine blood glucose results are fluctuating often.
n
Alternate Site Testing should not be used for patients who are dehydrated,
hypotensive, in shock, critically ill, or in a hyperosmolar state.
n
Alternate Site Testing measurements should never be used to calibrate a
continuous glucose monitor (CGM).
n
Alternate Site Testing measurements should never be used for insulin dose
calculations.
