User Handbook
PRELIMINARIES
Unpacking
Carefully unpack the unit. If it is damaged, please
return it to your nearest Tesco store for replacement.
Remember to take your purchase receipt with you.
Retain the user handbook. If you pass the unit onto a
third party make sure you pass on the handbook. We
suggest you retain the packaging. If you dispose of
it, do so having regard to any recycling regulations in
your area.
Operation
Place the unit on dry stable surface away from
heat and damp and where it is unlikely to fall or be
knocked over. The handle should be stowed during
normal operation.
When moving the unit always use the handle.
Mains Operation
• Check that the mains voltage on the rating plate is
the same as the voltage in your area.
• Set the FUNCTION SELECTOR to TAPE (OFF).
• Uncoil the AC power cord fully.
• Plug the cord into the unit and then plug the mains
plug into the wall socket and switch the mains
power on. The unit is now ready for use.
Battery Operation
• Set the FUNCTION SELECTOR to the 'OFF’
position.
• Switch the power off at the mains and unplug the
power cord from the mains and the unit.
• Invert the unit. Slide the battery compartment
cover forward and carefully lift off the cover.
• Place 8 'C' Size (R14) or equivalent batteries
in the battery compartment. The correct battery
positions are indicated inside the compartment.
• Replace the cover. Your unit is now ready for use.
NOTE:
If the unit is not going to be used for some
time or is being run AC power, remove the batteries.
Always replace batteries in good time. Batteries
should be replaced in full sets and all batteries should
be of the same type and rating.
Never
mix new and
part used batteries.
Handle batteries with care. Do not short batteries out
with metal objects.
Do not leave batteries lying around or exposed to fire
or water.
When disposing of batteries do not throw them in
the general rubbish, a fire or in water. Dispose of
them in full accord with recycling regulations that are
applicable in your area.
When operating the unit on battery power make
sure the power cord is unplugged.
Music On The Move
Please observe these simple precautions:
• Carry the unit
only
by the handle.
•
Do not
swing the unit around.
• If you play a CD keep the unit still.
• Do not drop the unit.
•
Never
carry the unit with the FM antenna
extended.
• Avoid excessive heat or cold.
• Do not operate the unit in rain, snow, or where it is
likely to get splashed with water.
•
Do not
play the unit at loud volumes in public
places.
USING THE RADIO
FM Reception
• Carefully extend the FM antenna fully.
• Set the FUNCTION SELECTOR to ‘RADIO’.
• Set the BAND switch to FM (St).
• Select the station using the TUNING KNOB. The
TUNING SCALE will indicate the tuned frequency.
• Rotate the antenna for best signal quality.
Unless you are listening to an FM programme we
suggest that the antenna is in the stowed position.
Stereo Or Mono?
Stereo offers better quality, but in a bad signal area, it
may be noisy. To set the Radio to Mono and reduce
background noise:
• Move the BAND switch to FM.
AM Reception
• Set the FUNCTION SELECTOR to RADIO.
• Set the BAND switch to ‘AM’.
• Select the station using the TUNING KNOB.
• Rotate the unit for the best signal quality.
AM is liable to interference from mains appliances,
cars etc. Careful positioning will improve reception.
