Diaphragm control unit for FP/FH Pumps Series
The diaphragm control unit is designed to detect an early break of the diaphragm in the FP/FH
pumps series. Only a small hole in the diaphragm will cause a mixing of slurry with hydraulic
liquid and so a damage of the hydraulic parts in the pump. A break of the diaphragm can’t
been recognised, because the pump works as a simple piston pump even without a
diaphragm. The hydraulic liquids we use are not electrically conductive, but the slurries have
a high conductivity. These different characteristics are used to detect the contamination of the
hydraulic liquid by a slurry. Between the two electrodes of the sensor an electric currency of
8V is connected. When a conductive liquid allows the low of the power, the electronic device
will recognise and switch a relay. With the potential free contacts of this relay an alarm signal
can be connected or the pump can be switched off.
1.12.1.
Installation of the sensors
The sensors are screwed in the draining valves on the bottom of the hydraulic chambers. For
the sealing a tape of Teflon. The pump sizes 25 need only one sensor, all others need two
sensors.
1.12.2.
Procedure of adjustment
Closing the drain valve and screwing off the plug. Screw in the sensor instead of the plug and
open the drain valve. For testing the function of the unit, the sensor can be dipped into the
slurry. When all parts are connected well, the electronic must switch in this case. If no function
is to recognise, first the wiring has to be checked. When the wiring seems to be correct, the
adjustment screw on the electronic has to turned clockwise, till the relay switches. After taking
the sensor out of the slurry, the relay must go back to neutral position again. If not, clean the
surface of the sensor. This can be done while power is switched on.
