2.2  Functional description and allowable operation

The

sintgle shut-off underground fire hydrant

 is composed of:

•  A vertical tubing (7) having in the lower part a horizontal

inlet flange (1) to connect to the water network, and in the

upper part an outlet claw 75 (R. 11).

•  A shut-off valve made with of a cone (4) encapsulated in

elastomer, and closing on the coated seat (2) at the bottom

part of the body. This cone (4) is linked to the operating

stem (9) in the upper part by a tube (6) having a nut (8). The

operating system is operated through a square cap (10) .

•  A double automatic  drainage device located on both side

of the bottom part, above the seating area of the cone (3).

The rotary motion, in the anti-clockwise direction, on the

square cap (10), in the upper part of the hydrant, moves the

shut-off cone (4) in a downward direction in order to release

the passage around the seat. Upon opening, the water passes

around the shut-off cone in the cone chamber (5) and rises

through the vertical tubing (7) to emerge at the outlet claw

(11). During the downward movement of the shut-off cone (4),

its two guiding lugs close the two drainage orifices (3).
The rotary motion in the clockwise direction on the square

cap (10) , in the upper part of the hydrant, moves the shut-off

cone (4) in an upward direction in order to close the passage.

Upon closing, the flow stops. At the end of the upward

movement of the shut-off cone (4), its two guiding lugs open

the two drainage orifices (2) in order to empty the hydrant.
In the case of

the double shut-off underground fire hydrant,

there is a floating ball (12) located in the cone chamber (5).

This floating ball follows the movement of the shut-off cone,

and allows secure closing.
Closing/Opening direction are indicated on the products.

Operation of our fire underground hydrants must be

performed  with the appropriate operating Key  « C » according

to DIN 3223, for square cap 32. The appropriate operating

Key  « C » should only be used for the recommended torque

values according to Table 4, otherwise the hydrant might be

damaged.
