Charging and caring for batteries 139
Cleaning the contacts of the battery
Notice
Do not scratch or scrape the contacts of the
battery. If necessary, wipe the contacts of the battery
with a dry, lint-free cloth to remove any dirt, oil or
grease.
Conditioning NiMH batteries
‘Condition’ a NiMH battery every three months to
extend its shift life. Conditioning enables a battery to
hold its charge for longer.
Notice
A Li-ion battery should not be completely
discharged. Li-ion batteries, unlike NiMH batteries, do
not require conditioning.
To condition a NiMH battery:
■
Leave the radio switched on and ignore the ‘low
battery’ warnings from the radio.
When the radio switches itself off, the battery is
fully discharged and ready to be recharged.
Storing batteries
When not in use for a month or more, batteries should
be stored correctly to prolong their life. The way you
prepare your battery for storage, depends on the
battery chemistry.
Li-ion batteries
■
Remove the battery from the radio before storage.
■
Fully charge the battery if storing for less than one
month.
■
Charge the battery to about 30% if storing for lon-
ger than one month.
■
Store in a cool dry place.
