Video Norm Menu
A series of different picture norms exists in the video
field. The most important of these are
Standard Video
(also known as FBAS, CVBS or Composite),
S-Video
(also known as YC or S-VHS) and
Component Video
(RGB or YUV; also YPbPr / YCbCr).
The TV / monitor output of the K6 supports all three
video norms. The Standard Video signal and the S-Video
signal are always available simultaneously. For the
sources DVD and STB the K6 also generates a Compo-
nent Video signal (assuming that a suitable device is
connected to the Component Video In input). The K6
also features a VCR output which simultaneously gener-
ates Standard Video and S-Video.
For the Component Video output the colour norm can be
switched between RGB and YUV.
To ensure that the Standard Video and S-Video outputs
always supply a picture signal, you must set which of the
two signals is generated by the source devices con-
nected to the inputs STB and VCR. The K6 then gener-
ates internally the signal not produced by the device.
As there are separate outputs for Standard Video, S-
Video and Component Video it may be necessary to
switch to the corresponding input on the picture display
device.
For further details on connecting and configuring source
devices
see also the section entitled 'Installation,
using the K6 for the first time'
.
Notes
Some picture display devices support automatic format
switching between 4:3 and 16:9 in
S-Video mode
. The
switching voltage for this must be present at the C-pin of
the YC signal, and the K6 generates this for the sources
DVD and STB.
AV signals fed in at the VCR input are not available at
the VCR output.
If compatibility problems occur between the picture dis-
play devices and AV source devices connected to the
system, we recommend setting all the devices to the
Standard Video norm, as virtually all equipment supports
this norm; see also the section entitled
'
Trouble-
shooting
'
.
Caution
The RGB signal does not contain synchronisation infor-
mation. If you are using this mode an CVBS or YC con-
nection must also be present between all the devices
using this norm to ensure that the picture is correctly
synchronised; see also the section entitled
'Installation,
using the K6 for the first time'
.
RGB / YUV out:
This setting selects the desired colour norm for the
Component Video input and output.
RGB
For picture display devices with Com-
ponent Video RGB connections.
YUV
For picture display devices with Com-
ponent Video YUV connections (YPbPr
/ YCbCr).
STB in:
In Standard Video and S-Video modes this setting se-
lects whether the source device is connected to the
CVBS socket (Cinch socket) or YC socket (Hosiden
socket) of the STB input.
CVBS
CVBS connection (Standard Video)
YC
YC connection (S-Video)
VCR in:
In Standard Video and S-Video modes this setting se-
lects whether the source device is connected to the
CVBS socket (Cinch socket) or the YC socket (Hosiden
socket) of the VCR input.
