BRAKE FLUID
Inspect initially at five hours of operation and every
30 hours thereafter.
Replace every two years of operation.
BRAKE FLUID LEVEL
Keep the motorcycle upright and place the handlebar straight.
Check the brake fluid level by observing the lower limit line on
the front and rear brake fluid reservoir.
When the brake fluid level is below the lower limit line, add
brake fluid that meets the following specification to the speci-
fied level.
Specification and classification: DOT 4
The brake system is filled with an glycol-based brake
fluid, which is classified DOT 4. Do not use or mix
other types of brake fluid, such as silicone-based
and petroleum-based brake fluids when refilling the
brake system, otherwise serious damage to the brake
system will result.
Do not use any brake fluid taken from old, used, or
unsealed containers.
Do not reuse brake fluid left over from the last servic-
ing or which has been stored for a long period of time.
When storing brake fluid, make sure to seal the con-
tainer completely and keep it out of the reach of chil-
dren.
When replenishing brake fluid, make sure not to get
any dust or other foreign materials in the fluid.
Brake fluid, if it leaks, will interfere with safe running
and immediately discolor painted surfaces. Check
the brake hoses and hose joints for cracks and oil
leakage before riding.
AIR BLEEDING THE BRAKE FLUID CIRCUIT
Air trapped in the brake fluid circuit acts like a cushion to absorb
a large proportion of the pressure developed by the master cyl-
inder and thus interferes with the full braking performance of the
brake caliper. The presence of air is indicated by “sponginess” of
the brake lever and also by lack of braking force. Considering
the danger to which such trapped air exposes the machine and
rider, it is essential that, after remounting the brake and restor-
ing the brake system to the normal condition, the brake fluid
circuit be purged of air in the following manner:
Fill the master cylinder reservoir to the top of the inspection
window. Replace the reservoir cap to prevent dirt from entering.
Attach a hose to the air bleeder valve, and insert the free end
of the hose into a receptacle.
