BATTERY STORAGE
1. When the outboard motor will not be used
for a month or longer, remove the battery
and store it in a cool, dark place. Completely
recharge the battery before reusing it.
2. If the battery will be stored for a long period
of time, check the specific gravity of the bat-
tery solution at least once a month and
recharge the battery when low.
NOTICE
Severe engine damage can occur in as little as
15 seconds if the engine is started without
supplying water to the cooling system.
Never start the motor without supplying water
to the cooling system.

WARNING
Failure to take proper precautions when
charging the battery can be hazardous. Bat-
teries produce explosive vapors that can
ignite. Battery acid is poisonous and corro-
sive, and can cause severe injury.
• Do not smoke and keep battery away from
open flames and sparks.
• To avoid creating a spark when charging
the battery, connect the battery charger
cables to the proper terminals before turn-
ing the charger on.
• Handle the battery with extreme care and
avoid skin contact with battery acid.
• Wear proper protective clothing (Safety
glasses, gloves, etc.)
AFTER STORAGE
When taking your motor out of storage, follow
the procedure below to return it to operating
condition:
1. Thoroughly clean the spark plugs. Replace
them if necessary.
2. Check the gear-case oil level and if neces-
sary, add gear oil according to the procedure
outlined in the GEAR OIL section.
3. Lubricate all moving parts according to the
LUBRICATION section.
4. Check the engine oil level.
5. Clean the motor and wax the painted sur-
faces.
6. Recharge the battery before installing it.
