The hard drives are mounted in drive carriers to simplify their installation and
removal from the chassis. These carriers also help promote proper airfl ow for the
drive bays.
Caution! Enterprise level hard disk drives are recommended for use in
Supermicro chassis and servers. For information on recommended HDDs,

Installing a Hard Drive into the Hard Drive Carrier (Figure 6-19)
1. Remove the screws which secure the dummy drive into the carrier.
2. Remove the drive from the tray.
3. Install a new drive into the tray with the printed circuit board side facing down
so that the mounting holes in the drive align with those in the carrier.
4. Secure the hard drive by tightening all six (6) screws.
5. Use the open handle to replace the drive carrier into the chassis.
6. Close the drive carrier handle to lock the hard drive carrier into the chassis
drive bay.
