Installing a Passive CPU Heatsink
Note
: Do not apply thermal grease to the heatsink or the CPU; the required amount has
already been applied.
1. Align the four attachment screws of the heatsink with the four mounting holes on the
motherboard.
2. With a Phillips screwdriver, gradually tighten screws #1, #2, then #3, #4 to ensure even
pressure. The order of the screws is shown below. To avoid damaging the processor or
socket, do not use a force greater than 12 lbf-in when tightening.

Removing the Heatsink
Note:
Supermicro does not recommend that the CPU or heatsink be removed. However, if you
must, please follow the instructions below to prevent damage to the CPU or other components.
1. Power down the system.
2. Unscrew the heatsink screws in the sequence shown below.

Gently lift the heatsink up and off the CPU.
