Chapter 2: Maintenance and Component Installation
Installing Memory
When installing memory modules, the DIMM slots should be populated in the following order:
DIMMA2, DIMMB2, then DIMMA1, DIMMB1.
•
Always use DDR4 DIMM modules of the same size, type and speed.
•
Mixing memory modules of different speeds is allowed. However, all memory modules will
run at the speed of the slowest memory module.
•
The motherboard will support one or three DIMM module installed. However, for best
memory performance, install DIMM modules in pairs.
•
When the motherboard is populated with 4 modules of 2S4R/4DR DDR4 LRDIMM, the
memory speed will operate at 2133MHz.
•
When the motherboard is populated with 4 modules of single rank DDR4 RDIMM, the
memory speed will operate at 2133MHz.
•
When the motherboard is populated with 4 modules of 2R/2DR/2S4R/2S4R DDR4 RDIMM,
the memory speed will operate at 1866MHz.
•
When the motherboard is populated with 4 modules of single rank DDR4 UDIMM, the
memory speed will operate at 2133MHz.
•
When the motherboard is populated with 4 modules of 2R/2DR DDR4 UDIMM, the memory
speed will operate at 1866MHz.
Caution:
Exercise extreme care when installing or removing DIMM modules to prevent
damage.
DIMM Installation
Begin by removing power from the system as described in Section 2.1.
1. Starting with the slot for DIMMA2, push the release tabs outwards on both ends of the
DIMM slot to unlock it.
2. Align the key of the DIMM with the receptive point on the memory slot and with your
thumbs on both ends of the module, press it straight down into the slot until the module
snaps into place.
3. Press the release tabs to the locked position to secure the DIMM module into the slot.
To remove a DIMM, unlock the release tabs then pull the DIMM from the memory slot.
