Although a prompt is sometimes shown at the beginning of a command line as it
would appear on the screen, you do not type it.

indicates you are logged in to a standard user account and are subject
to certain access limitations. The prompt displayed on the screen depends on
your shell environment (for example, csh (

) or bash (

)).

indicates you are logged in to the system administrator account and have
superuser access. Users of this account are referred to as
root

sign used in an example indicates the command can be issued only by
root
.
