Follow the same procedure as in step 73 to hinge the elevator to the horizontal stabilizer. Ensure that
the bevelled side of the elevator faces
down
.
18.
Remove the masking tape and turn the horizontal stabilizer/elevator up-side-down. Slit the covering
over the control horn slot on the
lower left
side of the elevator. Press the elevator control horn E3
(sheet 08/09, 1/32 in. ply) into the slot, oriented so that the hole at the end of the horn is positioned
above
the hinge line. Bond the horn to the elevator with medium CA.
19.
Remove the covering over the five slots on the
bottom
of the horizontal stabilizer.
20.
Turn the assembly right-side-up, and remove the covering over the slot in the
center rear
of the
horizontal stabilizer.
21.
Fit the tab at the base of the vertical stabilizer through the hole at the
rear
of the horizontal stabilizer.
22.
Fit the tabs at the
rear
of the fuselage sides into the four remaining slots in the bottom of the stabilizer.
View the model from the
front
and
rear
, ensuring that the horizontal stabilizer is straight and
perpendicular to the fuselage sides. Bond the stabilizer to the fuselage with a small bead of medium
CA along the seam between the two assemblies.
23.
Ensure that the vertical stabilizer is
perpendicular
to the Horizontal stabilizer and fuselage
top
, then
bond it to the horizontal stabilizer with medium CA.
24.
Finish Control Linkages.
With the control surfaces centered, trim the push rods 1/4 in. in front
of the control horns. Retain the scrap pieces of wire.
