11 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Symptom
Possible Problem and Action
Pilot will not light
> Verify gas supply is turned on.
> Ensure orange lead from pilot assembly igniter is securely connected to terminal labeled
“I” and black lead from flame rectification sensor is securely connected to terminal labeled
“S” on main control module.
> Ensure black cap leads marked “PILOT” from main control module are securely con-
nected to terminal labeled “PILOT” on valve body.
> Ensure black GROUND wire is securely connected to tab located next to ON/OFF toggle
switch.
A proper ground is essential to spark igniter operation.
> Make sure pilot flame is in contact with flame rectification sensor on pilot assembly. This
valve is equipped with a pilot flame adjustment screw. If pilot flame is too small it will not
contact flame rectification sensor and will not complete the safety circuit.
> Check continuity of pilot on valve. Remove wire connector. If there is no continuity on
pin terminals, replace valve.
Low flame
> Verify that gas supply is sufficient .
> Ensure that the insert is set to accept the gas type (NG or LP) used.
> Make sure the gas pressure coming into the insert falls between the minimum and maxi-
mum pressures allowed with this appliance, as prescribed in the “Fireplace Requirements”
section of this manual.
> Check to ensure that the glass logs are in their correct and upright position, and that the
glass beads do not cover the burner ports. Rearrange the beads as necessary to prevent
excessive blockage of the burner ports (more than one layer deep).
Uneven flame
distribution
> Check to ensure that the glass logs are in their correct and upright position, and that the
glass beads do not cover the burner ports. Rearrange the beads as necessary to prevent
excessive blockage of the burner ports (more than one layer deep).
> Check to ensure there is no blockage from debris or insects in the burner ports.
Excessive sooting or
smoking
> Some soot may have accumulated on the glass logs during the course of a year’s opera-
tion. This is normal. The soot can be removed by lightly brushing the glass with a soft
brush or cloth. More excessive sooting on the glass or pilot assembly could indicate inade-
quate flame combustion and should be inspected by a qualified technician.
> Make sure the gas supply is correct for the insert used. Change out insert to proper type
or convert the insert to the proper gas using the approved conversion kit.
> Make sure the gas pressure coming into the insert falls between the minimum and maxi-
mum pressures allowed with this appliance, as prescribed in the “Fireplace Requirements”
section of this manual.
> Damper may be closed. Ensure the damper is fully open when the insert is in operation.
> Flue may be less than required 8” in diameter. Verify diameter and replace venting to the
required 8” flue if necessary for adequate venting.
Excessive noise from
burner
>During normal operation, the insert will make a low hissing sound. This is due to the mix-
ture of air, gas and combustion, and is normal.
> If the noise is excessive, check to ensure the gas pressure coming in to the insert falls
between the minimum and maximum pressure allowed with this appliance, as prescribed in
the “Fireplace Requirements” section of this manual.
