The SQlab Carbon handlebars are designed to be mounted in all conventional aluminium stems with a handlebar clamp diameter of 31.8
mm in combination with 2- and 4-screw clamps. The clamping width of the stem must not be less than 40 mm and not exceed 58 mm.
Before mounting, read the user information of the stem and the attachment components to be attached to the handlebars (shift and
brake levers, grip tape, etc.) carefully. If there are any questions, doubts or conflicting specifications, please ask your SQlab dealer for
advice before mounting.
For the assembly of the handlebars, in addition to basic knowledge of assembly and mechanics, the tool specified by the stem (usually
a 4 mm or 5 mm hex key) and an appropriate torque wrench are required.
Moisten the cleaned and grease-free clamping surfaces of the handlebars and stem with the supplied SQlab mounting paste and posi-
tion the handlebars in the middle of the stem. The assembly paste increases the desired frictional force between the components to be
assembled, so that the bolt tightening torque does not have to be tightened more than necessary.
Now mount the handlebars on the stem and fix the handlebars with the stem cover. At this point, tighten the bolts with a low tightening
torque first.
Adjust the desired angle of the handlebars around its transverse axis, we recommend to align the handlebars horizontally. Then tighten
the clamping screws according to the torque specifications of the respective stem model and the sequence for tightening the screws of
the clamping cover. If your stem does not have any torque specifications and tightening sequence, please contact your SQlab dealer.
Now mount the shift/brake levers and wrap the grip tape around your handlebars. How to wrap the grip tape correctly can be seen in our
grip tape instructions, which you can find at: www.sq-lab.com/service/downloads
The SQlab 8OX stems and some other stems, allow the handlebars to snap into the stem
by applying slight pressure. The handlebars are now held in place to allow an easier
assembly.

Note
When mounting road bike shift/brake levers, it is essential to pay attention to the tightening torque. All current Shimano and
Sram shift/brake levers are specified with a tightening torque of 6 - 8 Nm. With the help of the supplied assembly paste a tigh-
tening torque of 6 Nm is usually sufficient to fix the shift/brake levers. Campagnolo specifies a tightening torque of 10 Nm for
fixing the gear/brake levers, which is high, especially due to the narrow clamp which is not sufficiently deburred. With the help
of the assembly paste, a tightening torque of 8 Nm or less is usually sufficient to secure the shift/brake levers sufficiently. Too
high tightening torque of the shift/brake levers can lead to constrictions, especially on carbon handlebars, which can signifi-
cantly affect the stability and service life of the component. The position of the clamp in a bend is a decisive factor here, which
makes the point vulnerable. Therefore we always recommend to use the supplied friction increasing assembly paste, that makes
a lower tightening torque sufficient.
Warning
The tightening torque of the clamping screws on the stem depends on the stem mo-
del. However, do not use a stem in which the tightening torque of the screws on the
handlebar clamp according to the manufacturer is greater than 8Nm. Exceeding the
tightening torque can lead to fibre cracks or pinching, which can cause a handlebar
failure that could cause a fall.
