Sperre Air Compressor

4. FAULT TRACING
The following are some of the faults that may arise in operation.
A Compressor capacity is low and/or compressor not supplying full pressure
Possible cause Remedy
Damaged ,worn or sluggish
opening of LP & HP valves,**** Clean and check all valves
Sticking piston rings Dismantle rings. Clean grooves and rings.
Replace defective p a r t s . W h e n
reinstalling, lubricate cylinder walls with oil.
Leaking safety valve Overhaul safety valves, adjust to correct
lifting pressure
Defective gasket between
crankcase and cylinder block Replace gasket
Air filter blocked Clean filter.
Leaking solenoid operated drain
valves Repair solenoid operated drain valves
Increased L.P stage clearance
volume * Check gasket thickness, gudgeon pin, big
end bearing clearances
Insufficient cooling water ** Check cooling water flow, pressure and inlet
and outlet temperature
Too high temperature of ambient
air at compressor intake *** Improve intake air temperature
B LP safety valve blows
Possible cause Remedy
HP valves damaged Check and clean or dirty valves. Replace
defective parts.

Possible cause Remedy
Air compressor discharge valve
closed Open discharge valve
Non return valve after the
compressor blocked Remove and clean non-return valve. Replace
defective parts.
D HP and LP Valves require maintenance too frequently
Possible cause Remedy
Overheating Check cooling water circulation and
temperatures. Inspect coolers and clean if
necessary.
Dirty intake air Check suction filter for damage & dirt.
Inferior lube oil Change lubes oil type. See list of
recommended types in this handbook.
Manufacturer can supply further information.
Incorrect tightening of LP and HP
valves Tighten valve compressor valves clamping
screws to specified torque
