Sperre Air Compressor
Two stage, water cooled

E Overheating or knocking in crankcase
Possible cause Remedy
Defective bearings Inspect bearings, check clearances.
Insufficient tube oil or lube oil
contaminated with water Drain sump, clean and add new oil
Binding crankshaft bearing Check bearing clearances. Replace defective
parts.
F Overheating and scoring of piston
Possible cause Remedy
Piston or gudgeon pin bearing
incorrectly fitted Replace defective parts, check piston
clearances, piston ring clearances and
gudgeon pin bearing.
Deficient cooling Check cooling water flow and temperatures.
G Excessive lube oil consumption
Possible cause Remedy
Piston rings worn out Replace piston rings.
Defective crankcase breather
valve Replace breather valve
H Excessive moisture in final air delivery pipe work and/or final stage cylinder/
intercooler.
Possible cause Remedy
Solenoid drain/unload valve faulty. Check solenoid valves function, renew
components as necessary.
Unload drain cycle incorrect for
operating conditions. Reprogram solenoid drain/unload valves
opening “interval” and “duration” to suit
operating conditions.
I Water jacket safety valve / bursting disc blowing.
Possible cause
Remedy
Excessive cooling water inlet
pressure.
Reduce cooling water pressure to
recommended pressure
Intercooler/after cooler tube
failure.
Remove cooler header and tube nest.
Renew/refurbish tube nest. Use maker
specified/ original tubes.
