Sony 9-Pin Machines
Selecting Sony 9-Pin produces the following:
Machine Options – Choose from the following options STD , A , B , C , D and E . These
adjust the response time of Sony 9-Pin machines to certain commands. Once again,
contact SSL if you are unsure which option is best for the currently selected machine.
Track Enables – Stabbing on this provides access to the Serial Machine Track Records
(see lower screen opposite). This is used to tell the computer how the desk channels’
individual Record Enable buttons are wired to the tape machine. Usually the system is
set up one-to-one, ie. if you arm Channel 1 on the front panel, you are arming Track 1
on the tape machine.
You can, however, set the system up so that Channel 9 on the console will arm Track 1
on the tape machine. If you do change the relationship here, please make sure you tell
the operators! Once this menu is set up during system installation and commissioning,
there should be no reason to alter it – unless you want to cause complete confusion
and the possible destruction of a master tape!
Stabbing the grey boxes under Assigned Bays brings up a list of console ‘bays’ you
can assign to channels for track arming. To choose a bay, simply stab on the one you
require. The channel numbers of that bay will appear next to the track record
numbers. To individually assign channels to record tracks, stab in the grey box next to
the track number and a numerical keypad will appear. Enter the number and press
OK to clear the keypad. NC on the keypad enables you to enter nothing in the display
for that track, ie. no connection.
At the foot of the Serial Machine Track Records display are a number of additional
boxes which represent tracks that can be put into record by the console’s master record
function, once they have been armed here. These include
Audio 1 and 2 (the analogue
audio tracks for a VTR or 2 channel ATR), TC and Video . If selected, these items will
be listed under Control Enables when you return to the Machine Setup Options pop-
up.
The following three parameters defeat various parts of the adaptive lockup algorithm.
These constants should only require adjustment when controlling ‘perfect machines’
such as Motionworker or the CB Electronics film interface. They should only be
adjusted by experienced users who also understand the implications of their actions.
Disable aim adjustment No = normal behaviour.
Fixed adaptive lockup 0 = normal, adaptive behaviour. 1-20 sets the adaptive
scheme to the fixed value, and it is not adapted. The
normal, adapted scheme starts with a value of 12, and
generally adapts to around 8.
Frames to lock for 0 = normal behaviour, which currently equates to 2 frames.
1-10 determines the number of frames that the machine is
held locked for, before it is considered to be locked.
Having set or changed any parameters on the Machine Setup Options pop-up, hit OK
to save them to the System Disk and return to the Serial Machine Control display.
