ELECTRIC FISH HANDLING GLOVES

HUMAN SAFETY
Electricity can be hazardous. While the Electric Fish Handling
Gloves
tm
must be used carefully, the equipment has built-in
safety features: a limited voltage output of 36 volts and a limited
current output of 25mA under
normal operation. The output
of 36 volts, is less than the in-
ternationally recognized stan-
dard safe voltage of 42.4 DC
volts, referred to as “extra-low
voltage” in IEC 335-1 (Interna-
tional Electrotechnical Commis-
sion), and the limited current
output of 25 mA is less than
the threshold of current needed
to adversely affect the human
heart with an accidental current
flow passing through the chest
and both arms (IEC TS 60479-1,
Section 3.3.2, Table 12, Figure 19,
Figure 22).
FISH SAFETY
If the current needed to
handle a fish is unknown, first
use the 5mA setting, and only
increase the setting until the
fish reaches the desired level
of immobilization. Increasing
the current beyond the neces-
sary level could result in slow
recovery times or death for
the fish.
