All the ports in a trunk have to be treated as a whole when
moved from/to, added or deleted from a VLAN.
•
Configure the trunk prior to connecting any cable between the
switches to avoid creating a loop.
•
Before removing a port trunk via the configuration menu,
remove all the network cables. Otherwise, a loop may be
created.
•
To remove a single link from a port trunk, you should first
remove the network cable, and then re-configure both ends of
the link via the configuration menu. This allows the traffic
passing across that link to be automatically distributed to the
other links in the trunk, without losing any significant amount
of traffic.
Trunk Selection, Trunk Port Assignment
Click the “Trunk Selection” and “Trunk Port Assignment”
checkboxes to configure the port trunking. For Mac address-based
load-balancing, each trunk may consist of two to eight ports. For
port-based load-balancing, trunks may consist of two to four ports.
Load Balancing Method: MAC Address Based
This is shown in the figure on the previous page. When the switch
receives a packet with a destination MAC address (DA) that is
associated with a trunk, it will automatically forward the packet to
one of the trunk ports.
