BOATING SAFETY
1-21
Fire Extinguisher
Make sure the fire extinguisher is aboard and full. See the instructions supplied by the fire extinguisher
manufacturer to determine proper indication of condition.
Hull
Before launching, check the hull of your boat for cracks or damage.
Drainage System
Self-Bailing Deck:
Most water which enters the deck area bails automatically out the stern through the large
drain hole in the deck. A one-way check valve in the drain prevents water from traveling back to the deck
during mooring or while moving in reverse.
Bilge Pump:
Your Skeeter boat is equipped with a drainage system that channels water entering the boat
from the storage compartments to the bilge under the engine compartment. When the pump is on, most of
the water in the bilge will drain through the outlet. For manual bilge pump systems, the pump will operate
when the bilge pump switch is turned on. If your boat is equipped with an automatic bilge pump, the pump will
sense when there is excessive water in the bilge and will automatically turn on.
Always carry a fire extinguisher on board.
