Unpack the Mower
1. Cut all four corners of the box from top to bottom.
2. Remove all packing materials from the mower.
3. Locate and identify the items included with the
mower:
• Mulching plug (installed)
• Grass bag
• Side discharge deflector
• SAE30 Oil
• FreshStart® fuel stabilizer
• Battery charger (Model 7800894)
• Set of ignition keys (Model 7800894)
• Operator’s manual
Raise the Handle Assembly
1. Loosen, but do not remove, the knobs
(A, Figure
1)
on both sides of the upper handle.
2. Unfold the upper handle so that it is aligned with
the lower handle, and tighten the upper knobs.
3. Remove the handle knobs, washers and carriage
bolts from the lower handle
(B)
.
4. Raise the lower handle, aligning it with one of the
three sets of holes in the handle bracket. (Most
users will prefer the middle position). Replace the
hardware removed in Step 3, tightening securely.
IMPORTANT:
Be sure that the control cables are not
pinched or entangled in the handle assembly.
Set Up the Starter Rope Handle
1. Make sure the drive handle
(A, Figure 2)
is pulled
fully back, and the drive handle lock lever
(B)
is
pushed fully forward in the ‘Lock’ position.
2. Squeeze the blade control
(C)
against the handle.
3. Pull the starter rope handle
(D)
out of the engine to
the rope guide
(E)
. Hook the starter rope into the
rope guide (it might be a tight fit).
Check the Blade Control
Check to make sure that the blade control works freely.
Refer to ‘Before Starting’ in the Operation section.
IMPORTANT:
If the blade control does not work freely,
do not use the mower
. Bring the mower to an autho-
rized dealer for service.
