If the auxiliary voltage fails, the battery assures the time synchronization of the internal clock and storage
of specific data (statistical values, values of thermal models) for at least 6 months.
The device cyclically checks the charge of the battery. The Battery fault indication is issued if the actual
voltage falls below the admissible minimum voltage. After the Battery fault indication appears, the
battery must be replaced within 2 weeks (see the subsection Replacing the Battery in the SIPROTEC 5
Hardware Manual). If you ignore this, data will be lost.
To ensure that the battery is sufficiently charged and properly poled, carry out the following test after
battery replacement:
–
Set the internal device time (see the subsection Setting Time and Date in the SIPROTEC 5 Operating
Manual).
–
Switch off the power supply of the protection device.
–
Deactivate any external time-synchronization source.
–
Reactivate the power supply of the protection device after about 3 minutes.
–
Verify the time displayed at the device. It must still be correct despite the short power-supply inter-
ruption.
–
Reactivate the external time synchronization source
•
If the supply voltage is derived from the power-supply network of the motors, the voltage and frequency
limits must be observed according to the standard DIN EN 60034-1 (VDE 0530-1, Figure 12). You can find
more information in chapter 6.2 Supply Voltage in the SIPROTEC 5 Hardware Manual.
•
The protection device can meet the following items:
–
Switching capacity of the relay according to the VDEW guidelines for static protection devices, 1987
(Section 1.2.3.1 Command contacts)
–
Short-circuit rating of the auxiliary contacts according to the standard EN 60947-5-1
(VDE 0660-200, Section 8.3.4)
–
Standardized tripping classes according to IEC 60947-4-1 (VDE 0660, Part 102)
You can find more information in chapter 6.4 Relay Outputs in the SIPROTEC 5 Hardware Manual.
•
For safety reasons, the connecting wires do not have the thermal overload capacity according to the
standard DIN EN 60255-8 (VDE 0435). You can find more information in the SIPROTEC 5 Product Informa-
tion.
