BIOS error messages
Introduction
This chapter contains a selection of alarms, error messages and troubleshooting information.
Self-test POST
During booting, the BIOS first performs a Power On Self-Test or POST. This checks to
ensure that certain device components are functioning properly. The boot sequence is
interrupted immediately if critical errors occur.
If the POST does not find an error, the BIOS initializes and tests further components. The
graphics are already initialized in this phase of booting. Any error messages that occur are
displayed on the screen.
Error diagnosing
The following describes the error messages from the system BIOS.

Display remains dark
Power supply not connected
properly
Check the power outlet, power
cable and mains connector.
A beep sounds when a key is
pressed but no character is
displayed.
Keyboard buffer is full
<CTRL> <PAUSE> keys
COM 1 or LPT 1 interface does
not respond.
The interface is deactivated in
the BIOS setup.
Activate the COM 1 or LPT 1
interface in the submenu
"Hardware Options".
Mouse pointer no longer
moves.
The PS/2 interface is
deactivated in the BIOS setup.
Check the Setup setting.
