Heating
At low temperatures it may be necessary to heat the gear oil before switching on the drive unit or even
during operation. In such cases the use of heating elements is possible. These heating elements convert
electrical energy into heat which is conducted to the surrounding oil. The heating elements are located in
protective tubes inside the housing, thus making it possible to replace them without draining off the oil.
The used heating elements must comply with the requirements in Directive 94/9/EC.
Prior to startup of the heating elements the gear unit must have been filled up correctly
with oil. Fire hazard!
The heating elements can be controlled by a temperature monitor or a Pt 100 resistance thermometer
which emits a signal when minimum and maximum temperatures are reached; the signal requires
amplification.
When switching the heating elements by means of a Pt 100 resistance thermometer, the signal
must be processed by an evaluating instrument to be provided by the customer.
The switch point to be set as well as the hysteresis to be applied can be found in the orderspecific list of
equipment.

A detailed view of the gear unit can be obtained from the drawings in the gearunit documentation.
Never switch on the heating elements, unless complete immersion of the heating
element in the oil bath is ensured. Fire hazard!
