Figure 2 Hardware structure of the
communication converter
The task of the communication converter is to perform an adaptation of the available fibre
optic active interface in the protection device (DTE) to the physical specification of the
respective interface of the communication network (DCE). The adaptation occurs completely
bit-transparent, i.e. direct forwarding of the information without adding or filtering out infor-
mation. Figure 2 shows the hardware structure.
Note: Many applications in the protection area need a leased line in the communications
network for a point-to-point connection which is bit transparently and works without delay
times works (in the area of ms).
Note: The identification of the interface type (optionally X.21 or G.703.1) and the desired
transmission rate take place automatically.
Changing between synchronous and asynchronous mode at the X.21 and G.703.1 interface
or changing switching to into the test mode (loop mode fashion) for the startup and for
service purposes is carried out via pushbutton.
