Dismantling the ZMS 5 and ZMS 6 pumps
4.4.1 In its standard version the pump has a balanced shaft seal consisting
of a rotating stainless steel ring and self-adjusting, pressure-balanced
carbon ring and O-ring of nitrile rubber (see Fig 4.a). The carbon ring
is fixed in the retaining ring by means of the slots which locate three
studs in the retaining ring. By turning the carbon ring it is released
from the retaining ring.
4.4.2 After disconnection of the inlet and discharge pipes from the pump
the motor shroud and the front plate of the pump housing are
removed, as described under para. 3.4. The centre screw (pos. 4,
Fig. 4.c) is removed and the O-ring under the screw is extracted. The
screw in the clamp ring (pos. 5, Fig. 4.c) is loosened, a screwdriver is
wedged into the groove of the clamp ring to open it.
4.4.3 A slide hammer with M10 thread is screwed into the threaded hole of
the impeller and the impeller is drawn free of the motor shaft.
(see Fig. 4.b).
4.4.4 The back plate of the pump housing is removed together with the
front of the motor shroud by removing the screws (pos. 3, Fig. 4.c)
and tilting the back plate out of the extension frame.
4.4.5 The retaining ring for the shaft seal (see Fig. 4.a) may easily be
squeezed out of the rear plate. The carbon ring may be released from
the retaining ring by turning the carbon ring to allow for the bayonet
socket to release the studs of the retaining ring.
4.4.6 The stainless steel ring may be released from the impeller by tilting it
with a screwdriver.
4.4.7 If signs of wear are apparent on the carbon and steel rings both parts
should be replaced.
4.5
Assembling the ZMS 5 and ZMS 6 pumps
The retaining ring for the shaft seal is pressed into place in the pump
housing's back plate and the carbon ring is located in the retaining
ring. The stainless steel ring is pressed into the impeller and all
O-rings are lubricated with sanitary grease.
4.5.1 Before mounting the back plate of the pump housing in the extension
frame clamp ring (pos. 5, Fig. 4.c) is pushed on to the motor shaft.
The discharge pipe on the rear plate is edged past the motor shaft
and the rear plate is placed on the extension frame together with the
front of the motor shroud. The back plate is tightened.
4.5.2 Before placing the impeller a screwdriver or similar is inserted into
the groove of the clamp ring. The impeller is pushed over the motor
shaft, if need be, by means of a plastic hammer.
Make sure that the clamp ring engages with the location on the shaft.
