Operation
Operation is dependent on integration of the safety system into the application.

Description of signals
The following abbreviations are used for the individual functions in the following fig‐
ures:
Abbreviation
Description
MR
Muting Request (part of the complementary signal for activating
the muting function)
TE
Time Extension (part of the complementary signal for activating
the muting function, in addition to the extension of the muting
function)
ESPE OSSDs
The OSSD signals of the electro-sensitive protective device
Muting active
Muting function active
Hold-to-run device
Command device with self-actuating reset

11.2
Muting function
The safety controller monitors the signal change of the commands for the muting func‐
tion and the output signal switching devices of the Type 4 electro-sensitive protective
device. These signals must follow a defined sequence and a defined timing to activate
and deactivate the muting function. If the safety controller detects a deviation in
sequence or timing, the safe state is activated.
The only exception is if the protective field of the Type 4 electro-sensitive protective
device is not interrupted even though the sequence provides for an interruption. The
error in the sequence is then saved, which means that the safe state is only initiated
once the protective field is interrupted.

Monitoring of the complementary circuit
2
Interruption of the protective device is expected after a defined time (max. 4 s, depending
on the speed of the conveyor). The muting function starts when the protective device is
interrupted.
3
Maximum duration of muting is defined (depending on the length of the material and the
speed of the conveyor).
4
Ending of the muting function after the protective device has been released and a defined
delay time has gone by (max. 4 s, depending on the speed of the conveyor).
