3. Place the case halves together, insert and torque the socket head bolts to 15-20 ft. lbs. (20-2
Lightly tap the shaft ends with a soft hammer to seat the bearings.
4. Position the gearbox in an upright position, as it will be on the mower, and fill it with grease shown
on the lube schedule on page 10.
5. Position the belt pulley and collect hub (flush with the bottom of the output shaft) and alternate the
1/4 hub bolts until 7-9 ft. lbs. (9-12 Nm) of torque is reached.
6. Reinstall the gearbox brackets and driveline shield to the gearbox and reinstall the gearbox
assembly to the mower deck.
Reassembly and reinstallation on the mower is a reverse order of disassembly instructions.
DRIVELINE SHEAR BOLT & SNAP RING
The driveline between the tractor and mower
gearbox is protected by a 3/8-16 x 2 Hex Skt.
Head GRADE 5 shear bolt (1). Do not use a
Grade 2 bolt as it may shear too frequently. Also
do not use a Grade B bolt as it may not shear
when necessary causing damage to the gearbox
or
tractor
PTO.
Any time a shear bolt
breaks, the snap ring (2) located on the gearbox
input shaft, should be checked, if is it is not
properly located, appears damaged, or is
completely missing, it MUST BE REPLACED.
Align the shear bolt hole in the yoke, with the
cross hole in the input shaft, and install a new
shear bolt and locknut. The locknut should be
snug against the yoke, tight enough to allow the
bolt to turn easily with a slight twist with a
wrench.
SPECIAL SHEAR BOLT, PART #AU8968020
lMPORTANT.
Make sure the snap ring is in place as a missing snap ring will allow the shaft to come off when the
shear bolt breaks, severely damaging mower and tractor
