Appendix 2: Using the 12VDC Power Out Connector
The MVG400 can supply power from the vehicle battery directly to devices via the
12VDC Power Out
connector
on the rear panel of the unit. However, only a limited amount of power can be supplied by the MVG400 in this way.
If the devices connected to the
12VDC Power Out
connector draw a total of more than 500 mA at one time, the
unit may overheat or otherwise malfunction. Therefore, it is best to provide independent power supplies for devices
connected to the unit whenever possible by connecting them directly to the vehicle battery (or some other power
source), as explained above (see
Supplying Power to Devices Connected to the Unit
, page 12).
Nonetheless, in certain cases it may be advantageous to supply power to one or more devices through the
12VDC
Power Out
connector. It is not recommended to use the connector to supply power to cameras. If you are interested
in connecting other devices to the connector, please consult a SerVision technician (at
) to
discuss the feasibility of connecting them. Bear in mind that the MVG400 unit can supply a maximum of 500 mA
(6W at 12V) of power through the
12VDC Power Out
connector. Before you contact technical support, consult the
device documentation of each device you want to connect to the MVG400 unit to ascertain its actual power usage.
NOTE:
Devices that draw their power through the
12VDC Power Out
connector on the MVG400 are turned
off automatically when the MVG400 shuts down, because they do not receive any power from the unit
when it is off.
WARNING:
It is not recommended to use the
12VDC Power Out
connector to supply power to cameras.
