CONNECTORS
BASEBOARD CONNECTOR
While the 7-pin
Power and Communications Connector
is the most common way
to connect an external system to the SIM225 (and most common across various
sizes and families of SIMs), the SIM225 Baseboard Connector is one of the most
flexible off-module connectors available and exposes many more signals. Often a
simple 2-layer PCB daughter-card will be attached to the SIM225 using this
connector to adapt the SIM225 to a particular system environment. For example,
at
Serious we developed for a customer an RS485 transceiver plus 12-30VDC
switching power supply daughter-card that could connect to a powered RS485
network cable driven by a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). The signals available on the Baseboard
Connector are very reconfigurable, supporting I2C, SPI, CAN, high speed serial, USB device, as well as
GPIO, battery power, system reset, and more.
Many of the indicated functions require both the PnmPFS and PORTm.PMR registers to be
correctly configured. Careful examination of the
RX MCU Hardware Manual
yields the ability to
reconfigure many of these pins to these functions as well as other modes, including GPIO.
