XE1401SK – FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
4.1 OVERVIEW
On the main board the Semtech ultra-low power Bluetooth™ baseband controller XE1401 and the ultra-low power
audio CODEC device XE3006 can be found.
Two on board radio connectors, for Skyworks (former Conexant) and Silicon Wave radio evaluation boards, provide
the physical interface to the Bluetooth™ radio. By default a radio evaluation board for the Skyworks Bluetooth™
radio CX72303 is included in the Starter Kit. RS232 and USB communication ports allow the connection to any
host controller or a Personal Computer (PC).
The included CD ROM does include the XE1401SK Software Demo for data and voice links, including the source
files using Microsoft® Visual C++ 6.0 (Serial Port Profile and Headset Profile). For further information how to
embed the included SPP and HSP software in other programs please refer to the included document: XE1401SK
Bluetooth™ Software Development Users Guide.

The XE1401SK can be powered by 3 different power sources:

2 On-board AAA type batteries.

External power supply ranging from 4V to 10V.

Via the USB port providing 5V.
