2.1 Introduction
SECOnITX-ION is a Single Board Computer (SBC) in nano-ITX form factor module, based on
Intel
®
Celeron
®
T3100, a Dual Core CPU running at 1,9GHz (800MHz FSB), with 1MB Cache L2,
64-bit Instruction Set.
Al
ternatively, the board can be supplied with Intel® Atom™ N270 CPU, a Single Core CPU running
at 1.6 GHz (533MHz FSB), with 512KB L2 Cache, Hyper Threading (HT) capabilities and 32-bit
Instruction Set.
The chipset of the board is formed by NVIDIA
®
ION™ MMP9 (embedded ION™) IC, that
implements all the functionalities of standard Chipsets, as well as a powerful 2D an 3D graphic
accelerator of GeForce9400 family, including 16 graphic cores that can be exploited at their
maximum using CUDA libraries, freely available from NVIDIA
®
Website. This feature gives the
board very high graphical performances, so that it can be used even for the most powerful 3D
applications.
Graphical capabilities of the Chipset allow one to drive directly two independent monitors, using
CRT, HDMI and LVDS or DVI interfaces (LVDS is available only in alternative to DVI interface).
NVIDIA
®
ION™ MMP9 manages also directly the access to memory, which is available on a single
SODIMM DDR3 memory module, with frequencies up to 1066MHz, with a capacity up to 4GB.
Other features controlled directly by NVIDIA MMP9 Embedded ION Chipset are 1 x miniPCI
Express, 2 x Serial ATA ports, 6 USB 2.0 ports (2 of them internally available on a pin header), 1
RS-232 Serial Port, PS/2 Keyboard, Real Time Clock and Watch Dog Timer.
Other features of the board are implemented using auxiliary controllers: for this reason, the board
can also offer one Gigabit Ethernet port, HD Audio interface, 8 x general Purpose I/O, Compact
Flash socket.
Optionally, onboard can also be installed a TPM device, ATMEL AT97SC3203, for computing of
RSA signatures in very short times and pseudo-random numbers generation, to be used both for
encryption keys generation and random number generation for normal software usage.

For thermal dissipation of heat generated, the board is supplied with a custom finned heatsink (with
or without fan). Please see specifications in related chapter.
