VBS Status Menu
Shows various data being input to the unit via the NMEA-0183 inputs from an
external GPS receiver. The minimum requirement is the $GPGGA string
containing the current position.
If there is no GPS detected many fields will be empty on the screens and “No
GPS detected” will be displayed on the third screen.
By pressing the ? key to get to this menu,
followed by ? to enter the menu, the
following sequence occurs when ? is
continually pressed.

This screen shows the number of GPS
satellites being used to compute the
position. The “Q” value shows the quality
of the position. When Q = 1, the position
is standalone, Q = 2 means the position is
corrected with the data from the DGPS
signal. “DOP” is the dilution of precision
that shows the quality of the fix geometry
as a crude indicator of position quality.
DOP < 3.0 is most reliable.

The Data age displays how long ago the

Typically this is less than 20 seconds.
The Ref Station shows what reference is

This screen shows the current GPS time
(UTC). The bottom line shows the data
received to be able to compute a
differential position. Time, Almanac,
Position and Sites all need to be received
before a differential position can be
calculated.
