Routine inspection, service and maintenance of
your boat’s systems are vital to assure your safety,
as well as for prolonging the life of your boat. You
should develop regular routines for inspecting your
boat. The chart below summarizes inspection,
service and maintenance activities. This section also
contains descriptions of some convenient methods
for evaluating the condition of some of your boat’s
systems.
The interval between necessary service or
maintenance is highly variable, depending on the
environment your boat is in, and on the severity of
operating conditions. For example, corrosion of
parts on boats operated in salt water proceeds
much faster than the corrosion of parts on a boat
operated in fresh water. The intervals listed below
are recommended maximums, and you must reduce
the time between inspections if your observations
indicate the need.
