PREPARATION FOR USE
On receipt of a new SCOTT PROFLOW 2 respirator, unpack the components and verify
that the respirator is complete and undamaged.
NOTE
EACH AIR FILTRATION ELEMENT MUST REMAIN SEALED UNTIL THE RESPIRATOR
IS MADE READY FOR ACTUAL USE.
1.
Wash, disinfect, and dry the breathing tube and the facepiece according to the
CLEANING AND INSPECTION section of this instruction.
2.
FACEPIECE IDENTIFICATION
The SCOTT PROFLOW 2 respirator may be used with a variety of SCOTT full facepieces
as shown in the list on page 20. The essential operation of all full facepieces is the same,
but certain features are applied differently depending the style of full facepiece. There are
two basic styles:
WITH ADAPTER
and
WITHOUT ADAPTER
. During facepiece fitting and
training, become thoroughly familiar with the facepiece with which you are fitted.
FACEPIECES WITH ADAPTER
When required by the style of facepiece chosen, install the 40mm adapter, SCOTT P/N
805059-01 on the respirator facepiece as follows:
a)
Verify that the seal on the back of the 40mm adapter is in good condition.
b)
Verify that the Inhalation Valve is properly installed and in good condition.
c)
Verify that the gasket inside the
threaded connector is clean and
properly installed.
d)
Align the two flat edges of the
bayonet mount on the 40mm
adapter with the matching flats on
the clear mounting adapter on the
front of the facepiece.
e)
Rotate the 40mm adapter 90 de-
grees until the locking clip is
aligned with notch in facepiece
lens.
f)
Push locking clip fully into notch
to prevent rotation of adapter. Ori-
entation shall be as shown in
FIGURE 1.
FACEPIECES WITHOUT ADAPTER
Certain full facepieces do not require an adapter. Inspect the threaded connector of the
facepiece without adapter as follows:
g)
Verify that the inhalation valve/valve seat is in good condition.
h)
The inhalation valve/valve seat also serves as the gasket in the threaded con-
nector. Verify that it is clean and properly installed.
3.
The breathing tube is available in a selection of lengths and angle configurations to
provide the best fit for the respirator user. On breathing tubes equipped with a 90°
right angle connector on one end, the right angle connector end attaches to the face-
piece. Attach the breathing tube assembly to facepiece as follows:
a)
If present, remove the plastic plugs from the ends of the breathing tube
assembly.
b)
Inspect the threaded connector in the facepiece adapter.
c)
Thread the male end of breathing tube into the female thread on the threaded
connector until hand tight.
