I just bought an HDTV. Do I have HD service now?
No. What you have is an HD capable TV. In order to view HD
programming you must subscribe to an HD service from your
television subscriber.
I just bought an HDTV and the picture is better now. Am I
viewing HDTV?
No. Because your new TV has a better quality of picture
resolution, you are experiencing a sharper picture. In order to
view the full effect of HD programming you must subscribe to Max
HD packages.
When it’s announced before a program that it is being
broadcast in HD, am I receiving HD programming?
When it is announced that a program is being broadcast in HD, it
simply means that it has been captured and transmitted by the
Network in an HD format. In order to view a true HD picture, you
must subscribe to Max HD packages and have an HD capable TV in
your home.
Is digital service the same as HD service?
No. There are a number of digital formats, HD among them.
Digital simply means that the signal is being transmitted in a digital
format versus the older analog format. HDTV is a form of digital
broadcast that must have a resolution of 720p or 1080i, or higher
to qualify as true HDTV.
If I subscribe to an HDTV broadcast service, will all of the
programs be HD?
Over the past several years, HD network providers have increased
the amount of HD content on their HD channels; however, unless a
channel advertises that it is 100% HDTV content, you should
expect that some of the programming will still be in the older,
Standard Definition (SD) format. One exception to this is that all
of the channels in Max’s HD Adventure Package do provide 100%
HD content.
o
TSNHD estimates that just over 50% of their
programming is High Definition.
I wanted to watch the Football Game in HD. It was on TSN,
but not on TSNHD. Why is that?
Because an HD channel often makes a commitment to deliver a
minimum percentage of their programming in HD, they may
preempt non-HD programming that is being delivered on the SD
channel, in order to provide additional HD viewing. In the case of
the Football Game, if it was on TSN in Standard Definition, it may
be switched for an HD program on TSNHD. If you wish to watch
the Football Game, you will need to watch it on TSN.
Why am I only able to have one HD connection in my home?
SaskTel Max is sent to you on IPTV (Internet Protocol Television)
technology and therefore has a limited amount of bandwidth on
which to send your TV signal. Because HDTV requires so much
more bandwidth than SDTV, only one HD connection will fit in the
allotted bandwidth.
