Operation on a ramp
If you use the Liftkar PT stairclimber to move up and down ramps, you can increase
safety by activating the step edge brakes.
7.1 Moving DOWN a ramp
To move down a ramp you need to hold the Liftkar PT facing forwards; using the step
edge brakes you can control the descent of the Liftkar PT
(with wheelchair)
by
leaning the unit back until the brakes take effect.
7.2 Moving UP a ramp
To move up a ramp you need to hold the Liftkar PT facing backwards; using the step
edge brakes you can control the descent of the Liftkar PT
(with wheelchair)
by
leaning the unit back until the brakes take effect. The step edge brakes act like a
reversing brake.
Note: because the Liftkar PT is tilted backwards during operation it will not be possible to
balance the unit. We recommend lengthening the adjustable handle beforehand so that the
extra weight is easier to handle. Depending on the weight of the passenger and the length of
the ramp it may be a good idea to have a second person available to assist.
