Design and principle of operation

Push the plug (4) onto the bellows (5).
Ö
Secure the connection between the plug and bellows with a
PTFE cord (6) inserted as far as possible. Use a sharp knife to
cut off the remaining part of the cord that projects.
3.5.1.3 Assembly of the bonnet fl ange
Ö
Insert the distance bushing (14), V-ring and lock ring of the
V-ring packing (15). Arrangement of the V-ring packing, see
Figure 3-1.

Insert the set of spring washers (16) into the provided hole.

Insert the o-ring (18) into the inner groove of the stuf fi ng box
(19).
Ö
Press the upper bearing bushing (17) into the bottom part of
the stuf
fi ng box (19).
Ö
Grease the stuf fi ng box (19) on the thread.
Ö
Screw the stuf fi ng box (19) into the upper thread of the bon-
net fl ange (2) so that the outer groove of the stuf fi ng box is
still visible.
Do not screw the stuf fi ng box (19) into the bonnet fl ange as far
as it will go.
Ö
Clamp the bonnet fl ange (2) at the yoke in a vice with the
fl ange opening facing upwards.
With DN 80 and DN 100, fi t the yoke (25) at a later stage.
Ö
For DN 80 and DN 100, clamp the bonnet fl ange for further
assembly with the stem guide facing downwards in a vice so
that the
fl ange opening faces upwards.
Damage to the bonnet fl ange due to improper handling!
Ö
Do not damage the bonnet fl ange, especially the thread on
the stem end.
Ö
Press the lower bearing bushing (11) into the upper part of
the threaded bushing (10).
Ö
Insert the o-ring (18) into the inner groove and o-ring (23) in
the collar groove of the threaded bushing (10).
Ö
Grease the threaded bushing (10) on the thread.
Ö
Screw the threaded bushing into the bonnet fl ange (2) as far
as it will go.
Damage to the threaded bushing due to improper assembly!
Ö
The threaded bushing must not be inserted at a slanted angle
when screw it into the bonnet
fl ange.

Only for DN 80 and DN 100, push the yoke (25) onto the
bonnet
fl ange and tighten the grooved nut (26).
3.5.1.4 Final assembly of the bonnet fl ange
Ö
Insert the spring washer (9), thrust washer (8) and o-ring (7)
in the bonnet
fl ange (2). Refer to the drawing Figure 3-1 for
the arrangement of parts.
Ö
Place the preassembled stem in the bonnet fl ange (2), see
Chapter 3.5.1.2.
Ö
Press the fl ange of the bellows (5) into the turned recess of the
bonnet fl ange (2).
Ö
Screw in the screw plug (13).
3.5.1.5 Final assembly of the valve (standard
stuf fi ng box version)
Ö
Clamp the preassembled valve body (see Chapter 3.5.1.1) in
a vice with the bonnet opening facing upwards.
Ö
Place the preassembled bonnet fl ange (see chapter 3.5.1.4)
onto the valve body carefully.
Ö
Insert the screws (20) and align using the nuts (21). Tighten
the screws evenly in a criss-cross pattern.
Damage to the stem due to twisting!
Ö
Before tightening the screw connection, pull the stem up as
far as it will go.
Damage to the valve due to incorrect tightening torques!
Ö
The permissible torques for assembly and for retightening the
connection of the bonnet
fl ange can be found in Table 15-1
in Chapter “15.1.1 Tightening torques.
Ö
Tighten the stuf fi ng box (19) after adjusting the valve.
Ö
Screw the lock nuts (24) onto the stem. Adjust the nuts, see
Chapter “5.3.1 Travel adjustment with separately supplied
SAMSON actuator”.
3.5.1.6 Final assembly of the valve (version
with optional adjustable backup
packing)

The fi nal assembly of the valve takes place as already de-
scribed in Chapter 3.5.1.5.
Ö
Do not tighten the stuf fi ng box (19), rather unscrew it com-
pletely and remove it from the valve.
Ö
Clean the removed stuf fi ng box to ensure it is free of grease.
Ö
Apply Loctite 668 onto the thread of the stuf fi ng box (19).
Ö
Screw the stuf fi ng box into the bonnet fl ange.
