6.5.2- Hot or cold parts
The fluid contained in the installation can reach high temperatures and pressure, and may
appear in the form of steam DANGER OF BURNS!!!
It may be dangerous even to touch the pump or parts of the installation.
If hot or cold parts can cause danger, they must be suitably protected to prevent them from being touched.
7- INSTALLATIONS
The pump must be installed in a covered place, well-ventilated and with an ambient temperature of no more than
45°C. Thanks to the IP55 protection, the electro-pumps may be located in dusty and slightly humid places.
7.1- Base
The preparation of bases or benches is the responsibility of the purchaser. If these are metal, they must be painted
to prevent corrosion, be well-levelled and sufficiently rigid so as to withstand efforts. They must be sized to avoid
vibrations caused by resonance. If the foundations are concrete, it must be ensured that they have set well and are
completely dry before the unit is set up. The support surface will be perfectly flat and horizontal. After placing the
pump on the foundations, a level must be used to check that it is completely level. If this is not so, adjustment
supplements will have to be used between the base and the foundations close to the anchoring pins. Solid anchoring
of the legs of the pump to the support base helps all possible vibrations to be absorbed when working with the
pump. Tighten all anchoring pins down firmly and uniformly.
7.2- Pipe connection
Metal pipes must not transmit excessive efforts to the pump counter-flanges, to avoid deformation or breakage. The
pipe counter-flanges must be placed parallel to the pump flanges. In order to minimise the noise, vibration seals
should be fitted to the uptake and supply pipes.
7.3- It is highly recommended to install the pump as close as possible to the liquid to be pumped.
It is best to use a suction pipe with a larger diameter than that of the electro-pump suction mouth.
If the loading height of the suction is negative, it is essential to fit a base valve of suitable characteristics. Irregular
passages between pipe diameters and tight bends notably increase load losses. The passage from a narrow pipe to
one of a larger diameter must be gradual. Normally, in the passage cone the difference between the diameters must
be 5÷7. It must be borne in mind that the expansion cone located on the intake must be eccentric and placed with
the flat part at the top; the drive cone must be concentric. Carefully check that the joints on the suction pipe do not
allow air to enter. Check that the joints between the flanges and the counter-flanges are well-centred to prevent
resistance against the flow in the pipe. In order to prevent air bubbles from forming in the suction pipe, create a
slight difference in positive inclination of the suction pipe to the electro-pump. If more than one pump is installed,
each must have its own suction pipe to guarantee the operation of a single pump per suction pipe, except for the
reserve pump (if there is one), which only works in the event of failure of the main pump. Cut-off valves must be
fitted to the inlet and outlet of the pump in order to prevent the need to empty the installation for pump
maintenance.
The pump must never be started with the cut-off valves closed, as this would increase the
temperature of the liquid and bubbles of seam would form inside the pump, with the
resulting mechanical damage. If possible, include a by-pass or discharge in the circuit
connected to a liquid overflow tank (as provided in local regulations for toxic liquids).
