Press the pedal down hard and steer to avoid an
obstacle if required.
Do not release the brake pedal before the car
has come to a halt or the danger is past!

detent when changing from the P or N position

ABS-brakes
Your automatic transmission can also be
shifted manually using a feature called
"Sentronic". This system allows you to change
gears manually, using the controls on the
steering wheel (Aero models only) or the gear
selector lever. You may wish to engage this
feature, for example, when you’re passing as
this allows you to remain in a lower gear for an
extended period of time.
To operate:
1 Move the gear selector lever to the M
position.
2 Select a higher gear by pushing the right-
hand paddle on the steering wheel (above
the steering wheel radio controls) (Aero
models only) or pushing the selector lever
forward.
3 Select a lower gear by pushing the left-hand
paddle on the steering wheel (above the
steering wheel radio controls) (Aero
models only) or pulling the selector lever
back.

to 4
th
gear and from 4
th
to 5
th
gear can be made when the engine speed is
above roughly 2,000 rpm.
If the road surface is slippery, you may wish to
start off in 2
nd
or 3
rd
gear to reduce the risk of
wheel spin. When descending hills, select a
low gear to increase the braking effort of the
engine, thus sparing your brakes.
Manual gear selections will be shown on the
main instrument panel. The selector position
and the current gear are displayed.
When the M position has been selected, the
engine is much more responsive to changes in
the accelerator position – it will also feel
differently.
Note than when in the manual model, kick-
down operates for 4
th
and 5
th
gears (below
2,000 rpm). Kick-down cannot be activated in
1
st
, 2
nd
, or 3
rd
gears.
